The technology at the heart of Creative Dimension Software was originally developed by two of its founders at Canon Research.

In brief, the technology allows photographs of an object placed upon a special calibration mat to be processed by the software tool to deliver a true 3D model, showing all possible views of the object.

The company started trading in December 2004 and found the software tool's early adopters among museums and graphics professionals.

Moving into SETsquared's Incubator Unit in 2008, Creative Dimension Software soon recognised the benefits of the multi-faceted support that they received. Adam Baumberg, CEO of Creative Dimension Software, takes up the story: "Firstly, from a practical point of view, SETsquared provides us with excellent facilities and business support. As you can imagine, we do have quite a lot of equipment - photographic equipment, scanning systems - and SETsquared has organised extra space for that too.

Completely new sales channels

"But probably more valuable in the long run are the people SETsquared has put us in touch with. Two different business mentors have opened up completely new sales channels for us. We had always thought that our technology had great potential in the retail sector - for designers, for high street names - but we didn't really know how to approach these people. One business mentor has great contacts in that sector and we are actively pursuing those opportunities. It's very exciting.

"The other mentor contact is with the Anatomy Department of Bristol University, where we are undertaking a pilot project, using our technology to scan organs to create a 3D educational tool. Again, this kind of application has almost unlimited possibilities."
