Professor Phil Nelson

Professor Nelson has oversight of the University of Southampton’s enterprise activities, including the generation of spin out companies, the licensing of intellectual property and the development of relationships with industrial sponsors.

He is a member the boards of the University of Southampton Science Park Ltd., University of Southampton Holdings Ltd., Southampton Asset Management Ltd., and the Wyvern Seedcorn Fund. He also serves on the CBI South East Regional Council, and the boards of Hampshire Economic Partnership and of the SETsquared partnership of Southampton, Bristol, Bath and Surrey Universities. He is also a director of a number of spin out companies.

Professor Guy Orpen

Guy Orpen studied for his Ph. D. at Cambridge University under the guidance of George Sheldrick and Jack Lewis, during which time he carried out neutron diffraction research at Brookhaven National Laboratory, U.S.A. with Dick McMullan and Tom Koetzle.

In 1979 he was appointed to a lectureship in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bristol, and was promoted to Reader in 1990 and in 1994 to Professor of Structural Chemistry.

Professor Orpen has served as Head of the School of Chemistry (2001-6) and Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Bristol until (2006-9), and was appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor in August 2009.

Professor Stephen Williamson

Professor Williamson was appointed Deputy Vice-     Chancellor (Research & Innovation) in January 2009.

Prior to this appointment, Professor Williamson was Head of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Manchester University, where he was responsible for the strategic direction and academic leadership of one of the UK's largest Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department in the UK, with a staff of 170 (of whom 60 are academics).

His previous academic appointments have been as a Lecturer at Aberdeen University (1973-81), Senior Lecturer and Reader at Imperial College (1981-1989) and Professor at Cambridge University (1989-97). After a brief spell in industry (1997-2000) he returned to academe in Manchester in 2000, and became Head of School in 2002.
