Simon Bond
Simon Bond is Innovation Centre Director for Bath Ventures, the University of Bath's commercialisation group. As part of the SETsquared partnership of the universities of Bath, Bristol, Southampton and Surrey, the Innovation Centre helps accelerate the development of technology-based start-up companies both from the University's research base and from the private sector. Simon is also the founder of Silicon South West, a network of 1,300 of the region's semiconductor designers and engineers; the Low Carbon South West network of over 1,000 environmental technologists; and the open Mobile Innovation Camp, a network for mobile device application developers. He has 18 years experience as a communications & public affairs professional with companies including AT&T, BT, Huawei, Marconi, NYNEX, Lucent Technologies & Telewest.

David Bream
David Bream
David Bream is SETsquared Centre Director at the University of Southampton.
David spent the early part of his career working in R&D in signal processing and high performance computing technologies. David than moved into the mainstream computing industry where he progressed through various sales and sales management positions.
Prior to joining SETsquared David was founder and MD of a consultancy and solutions company operating in the field of Enterprise Application Integration software ("middleware"). David has BSc in Physics, MSc in Digital Systems, Diploma in Marketing, an MBA and is a Chartered Engineer.

Rosalind Darby
Rosalind graduated in Materials Engineering from Imperial College and joined the National Physical Laboratory to work on mechanical and non-destructive testing of composite materials. In 1992, she began a career in the HE sector at the Research Councils working at the interface between HE, government and industry and involved in research programme development and delivery in areas such as process engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace and computer science. Rosalind also spent some time in corporate marketing and communications and had a one-year secondment at a university helping its engineering departments to improve research income, develop research strategy and benchmark research performance. Following a period working for an internet-based start-up company in the Finance sector as a Business Development Manager, Rosalind joined the RED team in August 2001.
Rosalind is currently a Technology Transfer Manager in RED, covering areas of engineering and the physical sciences, in particular chemistry, and social enterprise. The role involves identifying and securing commercialisation opportunities for the University's research outputs through license agreements with existing companies or other organisations and through setting up new spin-out companies.

Sarah De'Lacy
Sarah De'Lacy is Centre Director for Surrey's SETsquared Business Acceleration Centre and Operations Manager for the Surrey Technology Centre.
As part of the SETsquared partnership of the universities of Bath, Bristol, Southampton and Surrey, the SETsquared Centre helps accelerate the development of technology-based start-up companies both from the University's research base and from the private sector. By managing both Centres this enables Sarah to grow ventures from the Acceleration Centre into the 74,000 sq ft Surrey Technology Centre which provides space for small technology (research, development and design) companies in one of the most prestigious Science Parks in the UK - The Surrey Research Park.
Sarah was one of the founders of the Surrey 100 Club and is also on the Steering Committee. The 100 Club provides the foundations for venture creation by enabling its members to take an active role in tomorrow's success stories and by providing investment and mentoring to SETsquared's ventures.

Jonathan Hodrien
Jonathan is the Technology Transfer Manager at the University of Surrey and specialises in the creation of spin out companies and licensing the IP arising from biotechnology and environmental research.
Jonathan creates income for the University by protecting its Intellectual Property (IP) and transferring this and associated technology into the commercial sector through the creation of licenses, spin out companies and the negotiation of related research contracts. He performs due diligence on the University's IP and acts as a source of commercial and IP advice and mentoring for University personnel.
Jonathan trained as a microbiologist and has a background in commercial banking.

James Lancaster
James graduated as an Aeronautical Engineer, specialising in aerodynamics.
His early career was in the aerospace and electronics industry, initially sales and marketing before moving into technical management as Technical Director of an aerospace components company.
James received an MBA from Cranfield in 1992 and then brief spell in the electronics industry before a move into strategy consulting.
In the mid 90's James joined a Bristol based headhunting company focussing on a diverse portfolio including media businesses and high growth start-ups.
James joined the team at the University of Bristol in late 2002 as Business Support Manager working with the spinout portfolio, before taking over as Head of Technology Transfer 4 years ago.

Sean Smith
Sean joined Bath Ventures from Intrinsiq Materials where he was Director, Technology Commercialisation and Licensing. Previously, Sean spent nearly 10 years with Ciba (now part of BASF) in a variety of roles, primarily focused on new technology commercialisation. He has extensive experience in both established companies and start-ups and has served in roles ranging from strategic business development to technology acquisition and licensing. Sean also has considerable international experience and has worked in the US, UK and Switzerland.

Nick Sturge
Nick was brought up in Bristol and graduated from Swansea University in 1989 with a first class degree in Electronics and Computer Science.
After working in medical physics at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and for some small medical electronics companies, Nick worked at Inmos, part of STMicroelectronics, for 3 years. When his team were made redundant, Nick and 7 colleagues founded Motion Media Technology to develop video phones and video communication equipment. Motion Media listed on the main market of the London stock exchange, growing to 125 people across the UK and US and achieving a market valuation of over £250m. Nick led the production, HR, facilities, IT and quality functions of the business, giving him broad operational and PLC board level, experience. When Motion Media merged with SCOTTY Group, Nick consulted under the Omnigenix brand, including a part-time role as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the SETsquared Business Acceleration Centre in Bristol. Nick is now SETsquared Centre Director, responsible for business incubation, at the University of Bristol.
The SETsquared Partnership is an enterprise collaboration of the universities of Bath, Bristol, Southampton and Surrey, with each University hosting a SETsquared Business Acceleration Centre. These Centres accelerate early-stage high-tech companies with high growth potential. The Bristol Centre currently works with 40 high-tech start-ups of between 1 and 30 employees across sectors as diverse as semiconductor, renewable energy, web 2.0 and industrial instrumentation.
Nick is Chairman of the Bristol Branch of the Institute of Directors and sits on the board of several companies. Nick continues to consult for other growing companies on people, property and funding issues and has invested in a number of high-tech start-up companies.
