Resonating with Reggie and Rhythm

Reggie Chandra, founder and CEO of Rhythm Engineering (rhythmtraffic.com) wrapped up our day yesterday with an interesting talk on how to focus and motivate yourself. One little snippet really resonated with me:

"A goal that is not written down is nothing more than a hope..."

I liked that. I had two goals before I came to the states, both designed to help me get the most out of the scholarship and be highly productive. One was to work extremely hard (rather than adopt my usual 'coasting' attitude to work) and the other one was to dramatically improve my fitness (which began to slip last year). So there they are, written down, and so far i'm making good progress on both! Long may it continue!

To finish todays blog I want to continue on the topic of Hope, (a recent theme of my thoughts), by taking two quotes from one of my favourite films - The Shawshank Redemption.

"Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane."

                                                                                                                                  Red

"Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."

Andy [in a letter to Red]

Perhaps what Reggie was saying is that 'hope' is what drives us and goals are just the actions we take to realise our hopes, because there's nothing worse than loosing what we hope for...
