True Value

Today sees a small break in the usual hectic schedule and gives opportunity for us 'Global Scholars' to participate in whats known as the 'Benjamin Franklin Club'. It's a series of talks focused around the importance of being well read and so speakers talk on literature they find particularly important or inspirational. I'm going to read a few excerpts from a book I simply can't praise enough. Dale Carnegie's 'How to Win Friends and Influence People'.

He talks extensively on the values of dealing with people. On the programme here we've talked a lot recently about assets, liabilities and the 'value' of our businesses but I believe that true value is created by having the right people around you. We often refer to people as 'total liabilities', whether in jest or not I couldn't disagree more. People are our greatest assets. They don't depreciate with time (in fact often we come to appreciate them more and more), they can cost nothing and can give everything. What would the world be without people and what more reason do we need to learn how to be people people. If you haven't read it yet - go and buy it. It's the best £6 you will ever spend.
