Clever Docs with their heads in the cloud

DocCom is an enterprise network for healthcare professionals. In 2007 two doctors based in University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust put their heads together to bridge the gap they experienced in internal communication. They figured that by using enterprise social network technology they could help health organisations and their workers to communicate easily and more effectively.  Starting a revolution takes time and commitment and some focused expert support, SETsquared were there at the beginning and have continued to facilitate the growth of this exciting young company.  

SETsquared Adding Value 

Dr Jonathon Shaw and Dr Jonathan Bloor had already brought their idea to life with an early prototype by the time one of them sailed past a huge banner promoting the SETsquared Bristol Business Acceleration Centre. With no funding, no customers and no business experience they pitched their idea to Nick Sturge and Greville Commins and within a few weeks they had access to affordable desk and meeting space.

In the beginning they took advantage of every opportunity SETsquared offered them and attended workshops covering business planning and marketing as well as the excellent Investor Readiness programme that helped them hone their funding pitch and introduced them to the rough and tumble of finding funding.  

SETsquared Accelerating Growth

Being exposed to the SETsquared community and meeting so many characters who were ready to share their experience and their networks made it easy for the DocCom team to mature rapidly as a commercially focused business team. Having the right support allowed them to grow in confidence.

SETsquared removed so many of the early barriers to starting up. The doctors didn’t have to worry about the bills and all the practicalities were taken care of at good value monthly rates, saving them time and energy and leaving them free to focus on their business plans and fundraising efforts. 

DocCom were able to use SETsquared’s networks early on to make contact with angel funders in Bristol and Bath and from there, they were able to build their own networks to raise funds. 

The DocCom team is now 15 strong. With developers and sales and marketing experts on board and with the close out of their current successful funding round with Eden Ventures, they are set to rapidly expand their network of users from 6000 to 100,000 in the next year. 

The revolution has started.
