Talk5G: 5G overcomes space and time barriers with perceived infinite capacity

Next-generation immersive video services such as VR, AR and MR have become some of the killer applications in the 5G era. This talk will first provide a high-level overview on the requirements of these applications and the challenges in delivering them to 5G end-users. It will then present some novel R&D solutions that have been produced by the University of Surrey 5G Innovation Centre, which assures user Quality-of-Experience in these applications and truly overcomes space and time barriers through embedding network intelligence in the mobile edge. It also offers some novel business perspectives regarding how network operators and over-the-top service providers can collaborate to jointly deliver better performance to 5G users.

Dr Chang Ge is a Senior Research Fellow at 5GIC, Institute for Communication Systems, University of Surrey. He received B.Eng. (Honours) degree in telecommunication engineering from Queen Mary, University of London in 2009, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. in electronic engineering from University of Surrey in 2010 and 2015 respectively. His research interests include efficient video streaming, quality-of-experience management and context-aware network management in 5G networks.
