Brian is the new Centre Director at the University of Bath’s SETsquared Innovation Centre and Entrepreneur in Residence for the Advanced Engineering Business Acceleration Hub. His career spans four decades including senior strategy, marketing, development, general management and board advisory roles with diverse businesses from FTSE 100 hotel companies to gritting, waste management and motorsport. He is a self-taught web developer and a veteran founder of several digital/tech start-ups and has successfully raised funds across the private, public and charitable sectors.
Caroline brings a wealth of over 15 years of experience of working with early stage technology companies and a strong track record in developing enterprise support programmes and incubators. At the University of Surrey, she is the Centre Director for the SETsquared Surrey onsite incubator where she manages a collection of SME support programmes, supporting over 100 companies. In addition, she manages the Enterprise Programmes which provide funded opportunities for businesses to collaborate with University researchers and leads the Student Enterprise activities on campus where a wide range of business ideas are encouraged and supported.
Jenny is CEO of the UK Business Angels Association, the trade body for angel and early stage investing, representing over 15,000 investors around the UK. Jenny has over 20 years’ experience of facilitating SMEs access to investment, both in the UK and internationally. She ran her own consultancy on access to finance for SMEs, including spending nine years based in Brussels, working closely with the EC. In 2009, Jenny co-founded Angel Capital Group which incorporates London Business Angels, one of the most established and active angel networks in the UK.
Monika Radclyffe is responsible for The Bristol SETsquared Business Acceleration Centre, where she manages the Centre’s strategy and delivery of incubation activity to the 85+ technology ventures. Monika’s career includes facilitating open innovation programmes between corporates, academics and startups and global innovation events at Fortune 500 firm Cognizant, leading delivery on fintech innovation programmes at innovation consultancy ENTIQ, setting up a student incubator at the University of Westminster, running an entrepreneurial community of 6,000 members, setting up two co-working spaces and a digital acceleration programme at Dreamstake in London.
Professor Spearing has University-wide oversight of all research and enterprise activities as Vice-President (Research and Enterprise). This includes the research and enterprise strategy, the Concordat for Early Career Researchers, engagement with external parties, intellectual property and ‘spin-out’ companies. He is also a Professor of Engineering Materials whose research and educational interests focus on materials, solid mechanics, composite materials and micro-electromechanical systems. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
