In January 2018 the University of Bristol and Innova Partnerships agreed to establish Vitamica as a spin-out company dedicated to exploiting novel photonics technology for use in determining bacterial viability. This technology has an immediate application in the field of antimicrobial susceptibility testing for improving prescribing decisions and an Innovate UK grant was secured to explore the concept. Alongside the grant, the company secured seed investment in October 2018 and is exploring use of the diagnostic with urinary tract infections (UTI). Vitamica is located at Unit DX in Bristol.
