Investing in Innovation: Sustainable Technology

This webinar offers a unique opportunity for founders in the sustainable tech sector to hear directly from investors, who are active in this field, on what their drivers and motivators are for investment.

Panellists

 Johnathan Matlock

Johnathan is a PhD Chemist and former senior scientist at Ziylo that was acquired in August 2018 by Novo Nordisk A/S. He is an active angel investor in start-up ventures through Unit DX, Bristol Private Equity Club (BPEC) and the Green Angel Syndicate (GAS). He has also been involved in launch of the new EIS Science Creates Venture fund. He is passionate about clean tech and particularly interested in technologies that can have a major societal impact on either the health of people or the health of our planet

 Pippa Gawley

Pippa is the Founder and Managing Director of Zero Carbon Capital an EIS fund investing in early-stage companies on a mission to address climate change through deep-science and hard-tech innovation. Pippa has a long history of involvement in the sector and is an active and passionate member of the impact investing world in US,  the UK and beyond.  Pippa is a life-long learner with a Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Cambridge, and recent relevant qualifications from Oxford Said Business School (‘Impact investing’) and Stanford University (‘Energy innovation and emerging technologies’).

Prof Matt Davidson

Matthew is Director of the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies (CSCT) at the University of Bath, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a previous recipient of the Harrison Memorial Prize of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Royal Society Industry Fellowship. Matthew is also the project lead for the University of Bath’s Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub (STBAH) which provides business support and university research collaboration opportunities to a “new generation” of innovative small firms in the sustainable technologies sector.

Kate Ronayne

Kate is an Investment Director at Longwall Ventures, a UK based fund that invests in innovative science, engineering and healthcare early stage companies including sustainable farming start-up LetusGrow. Kate has a PhD in Physical Chemistry from The Queen’s University Belfast and started her career working as a Laser Instrument Scientist at the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. In 2008 she moved into the technology transfer team, developing new spin-out opportunities from the Council’s IP portfolio and the development of the Harwell and Sci-Tech Daresbury Campuses. She joined Longwell Ventures in 2019.
