Exeter based web software company secures partnership with the NHS

SETsquared Exeter member, Seedata a custom web software company, has had a busy few months. One of its software products has just been rolled out across the NHS in England, the team has expanded and the company has moved to the Exeter Science Park.

In 2015, Seedata took part in a Health Innovation Programme run by SETsquared in partnership with the South West Academic Health Science Network, to accelerate the development of a software platform for the NHS in the South West.

The platform, called Life, has been designed to enable frontline NHS staff to run Patient Safety and Quality Improvement projects.  Following the initial success of the platform in the South West last year, it has now been rolled out across ten regions in England.

Jason Williams, Business Development Manager at Seedata said: “In just nine months we went from an idea to a software product in use across most of the NHS – a feat almost unheard of and widely regarded as unachievable.”

Jason continued “Achieving such success in such a short timeframe really came down to getting three things right – firstly, a great working relationship with our customer, the South West AHSN, meant we had a really good understanding of both the end user need for this sort of product and insight into how it could be benefit a much wider user base/market.  Secondly, great design and excellent execution meant the product we developed is incredibly intuitive to use, requiring no training, making it really easy for all types of NHS staff to pick up and start using.  The third and final piece of the jigsaw was to commercialise the product as quickly and effectively as possible.  We adopted a regional subscription model which maximised our ability to get it in use across a really broad spectrum of NHS organisations from the outset.”

Seedata are now looking at broader UK expansion into NHS Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and are flying out to Sweden soon to attend an international Quality and Safety in Healthcare conference with the aim of pursuing international commercialisation of the product.
