From counting coke bottles to global success – Bath retail analysis software founders return to SETsquared

The two founders of a retail analysis software business have just returned to the SETsquared Bath Centre as mentors following the multi-million dollar success of their 2005 start-up Curo Data Solutions.

Thomas Williamson and Guy Addenbrooke founded the business when the takeover of their then employer gave them the impetus to take their new business idea forward. They developed new software which aggregated all the different points of sale data from supermarkets to allow easy access by their suppliers.

Deciding they needed some extra support, Thomas and Guy took two desks in the Bath Centre’s shared office space. This enabled them to swap ideas with others going through the start-up journey and make use of the Centre’s staff, mentors and networks.

They rapidly gained customers and within 6 months had found an investor and Curo became part of Retail Insight, with the founders getting shares and senior roles in the larger organisation. In 2007 Retail Insight was sold to Photon, Australia’s largest marketing and communications group, for a multi-million dollar 3 year buy out deal.

Having come to the end of their successful journey, Thomas and Guy are now sharing their experience and advice with future start-ups as the newest additions to the SETsquared Bath’s mentor team.

Release date: 1st March 2011
