Gen3D launch free online course during COVID-19

SETsquared Scale-Up member Gen3D has successfully secured Innovate UK funding to develop a new online course to help upskill people affected by COVID-19 – anyone on furlough, made redundant, or graduates looking for jobs and wanting to add new skills to their CVs.

The course, entitled ‘Design for Additive Manufacturing’ will be made up of online video content linked to guided interactive tutorials in Gen3D’s software and will provided for free until the end of 2020.

The funding comes from Innovate UK’s Business Led Innovation in Response to Global Disruption Competition, which offered a share of up to £40mfor projects responding to new and urgent needs during COVID-19.

Gen3D’s software goes beyond traditional CAD methods of design. Its innovative software uses custom scripts and novel workflows to accelerate and improve the design process of manufacturable components. Their new, online course teaches design methods and techniques with real-world examples to bring it to life.

Wesley Essink, Chief Technology Officer at Gen3D said: “Being able to share our knowledge and software at a time where many people are, by necessity, needing to look at alternative careers and learn new skills seems like a really important thing to do. Being able to tap into Innovate UK funding has helped accelerate the development of this training programme to ensure it lands at a time when it’s most needed. We’ve been working with academics from the University of Bath to ensure it reflects best teaching practice.”

The first online lesson will be released at the start of August and followed by the remaining lessons every month.
