Interest from corporates and investors get SPiN set for take off

SETsquared Space Accelerator Hub member, SPiN (Space Products and Innovation), is getting good traction with corporates and investors.

The company has developed an electronic hardware adapter that enables all the different satellite units (Power, Control, Comms) to work with any satellite platform. They identified that lots of time and money was being spent on satellite manufacture in the configuration of the different systems required and set about developing a ‘plug and play’ solution. Their product is the Multipurpose Adapter Generic Interface Connector – MA61C.

A working prototype was developed and demonstrated in July this year and through attendance at the International Astronautical Conference and the ESA Industry Days, SPiN has been able to meet with a number of corporates including Airbus, DLR, OHB, Qinetiq, Sitael, BST and IAI and received positive feedback for their solution.

The company has also received interest from Venture Capital firm, Bayern Kapital. A network of Business Angel investors called Baystartup will coach and introduce SPiN to the Bavarian investors.

Giulia Federico, chief operating officer at SPiN says: “This is an exciting time for SPiN. The feedback we’re getting from industry is extremely positive and we’re currently finalising the adapter commercial design. Following our first funding round, we will start the manufacturing phase of a testing adapter with an estimated go to market in the second quarter of 2017.”
