One Health Campaign: Future Food Systems

Innovating and collaborating to transform our food system

Applications Deadline: 12pm 22 November 2019

Shaping the future of food will require transformative innovations in the food system

It is predicted that 60 percent more food will be needed worldwide by 2050 to feed the increasing global population. To do this, more resilient and sustainable food productions are needed. This will reduce emissions and pollution, minimise waste and improve soil.

In recognition of this huge challenge, SETsquared’s Scale-Up Programme will invest £100k+ into R&D project proposal development to transform food production systems, improve productivity and sustainability, and help the industry move towards net zero emissions by 2040.

We therefore invite companies across the whole food supply chain (especially UK Scale-Ups), researchers (from the universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey) and consortia (comprised of companies & researchers) to apply for funding of up to £35k per project to help develop R&D proposals in line with the ISCF Future food production systems competition.

Our six scale-up partner universities have extensive expertise and capabilities, so there are huge opportunities to work with them. View a summary of their research capabilities

Funding will only be allocated to proposals which seek to include an academic partner from the universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey. If you do not have a partnership in place already, we can help identify suitable partners.

Each funding award can be used for bid writing, consortia partnership development and project management. Read our guide on how the funds can be used

  • We suggest that your summary should cover the market opportunity for the proposed project, your/your collaborators’ approach, what outcomes you anticipate, and project finance. But remember to keep it short & succinct. The purpose of the project summary is to help SETsquared evaluate the project for funding support to further develop the project – it’s unlikely that a project would have the full answers to all of these questions at this stage. (please see project summary guidance) If your project is not fully-formed at the moment, we welcome expressions of interest for future campaigns, just indicate this on the form.
  • Please note that projects must be greater than £1 million but less than £10 million.
