WORLD LEADING BUSINESS SUPPORT

QUANTUM TECHNOLOGIES

Funded support for companies & academics to bid for quantum R&D bids

Emerging quantum technologies have gained significant interest globally within the last seven years and the UK was early to recognise its potential for industrial applications.

The UK is a pioneer in bringing Quantum Technologies to market backed by serious investment from government and private equity to build a world-class quantum enabled industry.

The industry sectors that are likely to benefit early on are security and defence, space, aerospace, marine, mineral, gas and oil exploration, telecommunication, medical, finance and pharma.

To make this happen we need to establish industry academia consortiums to advance the commercialisation of quantum technologies in the UK and overcome the technical challenges of connectivity, seeing the invisible, positioning, navigation and timing, and computing.

We therefore invite companies which are innovating with quantum technologies, researchers (from the universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey) and consortia (comprised of companies & researchers) to apply for support to develop R&D proposals for the funding call listed below.

Our six partner universities have extensive expertise and capabilities in quantum, so there are huge opportunities to work with them. For companies which do not have an academic partner in place for a bid, we can make introductions to the appropriate academic teams.

The support that’s on offer to help you build the most compelling bid possible includes: early stage project scoping and evaluation, support from an experienced professional grant writer and critical friend review by an experienced assessor, prior to submission. Canada UK Commercialising Quantum Technology Programme: CR&D

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, will work with the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) to invest a total of up to £6 million in innovation projects. The aim of this competition is to strengthen collaborative research and development (CR&D) through Canadian and UK partnerships towards commercialising quantum technologies.

Projects must demonstrate co-development, have a high potential for commercialisation, address a technological challenge and include a plan for future exploitation. Projects that (1) involve consortia which span the supply chain of service or component suppliers, integrators, and end user businesses; and (2) progress quantum technology from lab prototypes to industry ready systems for commercial use through integration of innovative and scalable technologies, are particularly encouraged.

Projects must have a grant funding request of no more than £450,000 allocated to UK organisations, have a grant funding request of no more than CA $500,000 allocated to each eligible Canadian small or medium sized enterprise (SME), start by 1 September 2023, end by 31 August 2025, and last between 12 and 24 months.

Applications for funding close on 9 June 2023 11:00 am, so please submit your application for support below.

Feasibility Studies in Quantum Computing Applications

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation will invest up to £8 million in innovation projects. These will be for innovative solutions to industrial problems using quantum computing (QC) and explore the impact and feasibility of such applications.

The aim of this competition is to bring together end-users from many industry sectors, with experts in QC. They will identify and develop use cases in the UK that demonstrate the potential and commercial benefits of this technology. The industry sectors are, but not limited to manufacturing, transport and financial services.

Projects must have total costs of up to £500,000, start by 1 September 2023, end by 28 February 2025, last up to 18 months, have one or more end users within the consortium, carry out its work in the UK, and intend to exploit the results from or in the UK.

Applications for funding close on 29 March 2023 11:00 am, so please submit your application for support below.

Innovate UK Transformative Technologies

Innovate UK is offering UK registered small and micro businesses a share of up to £20 million in grants. The aim of this competition is to provide a package of targeted support to enable ambitious UK registered micro and small businesses in transformative technologies to reach their potential.

Projects must focus on one of the transformative technologies and how projects can enable affordable, adoptable and investable innovations for: (1) semiconductors; (2) future telecoms; (3) AI assurance; (4) engineering biology; (5) quantum; and (6) sustainable UK materials and manufacturing.

Projects must have total project costs and grant request of between £25,000 and £50,000, start by 1 June 2023, end by 30 November 2023, last between 3 and 6 months in duration, carry out its project work in the UK, and intend to exploit the results from or in the UK.
