Bristol-based tech company, Screen Time Labs, has posted a record £1million turnover in just two years. The company is another success story from the world’s number one incubator, SETsquared, and is poised for rapid growth across its international markets with revenues tripling in the last twelve months. Screen Time Labs parental control app helps hundreds of thousands of families across the globe to control screen time use.
Launched onto the market place for Android users in June 2014, the company has seen a month-on-month increase in revenues with United States and Germany leading the consumer demand. In December 2015, Screen Time Labs launched the iOS version and now has an active customer base of over 300,000 with over one million individuals interacting with the app.
Over 100 million families in the developed world with children aged between 5 and 13 have access to a tablet or smart phone allowing Screen Time Labs to tap into a niche market as parental concerns about e-safety and screen time levels are on the increase. Hardened by kids, the technology allows restricted access to certain apps and sites, to ensure parents have holistic control over their children’s use of devices, in a time where kids are spending more time than ever in front of screens, which studies suggest may be causing detrimental effects including inhibiting their ability to recognise emotion.
Screen Time Labs began as founder, Steve Vangasse’s, side project back in June 2013 as a frustrated Dad and tech expert when he found his kids were spending less time outdoors thanks to their new tablets. Now, the company is eleven strong, with six based in an office at Bristol’s Engine Shed and five working remotely from around the world. Their work has been recognised as they were recently shortlisted for the Start Up Business of the Year award from the Bristol Post and the app is number one on Google’s Play Store for parental controls.
Steve Vangasse, Founder of Screen Time Labs comments:
“To see our hard work pay off in our organic growth is rewarding but not as much as seeing how transformative our tech is for families across the world. We want to address a very real problem for parents in a way that does more than just protect children from dangers online. Screen Time Labs is designed with child and parent in mind, creating a neutral framework that avoids arguments and is built on understanding. We believe we should celebrate technology’s role in every day life without draconian measures. Our aim is to make Screen Time Labs the automatic first choice for every parent and we are on a mission to do so.”
Monika Radclyffe, Centre Director at Bristol’s SETsquared added:
“Screen Time Labs are a perfect example that you don’t need to take any investment to be a successful and fast-growth business. At SETsquared we support new businesses to help them get to the next level, but it is a very individual matter on whether they need investment or not to make it happen.”
