Start-ups to pitch for almost £20m backing at high-tech investment showcase

Leading tech start-ups and scale-ups who are developing high-growth potential technology companies, with products and services that will help people across the world, will be pitching for investment at SETsquared’s annual Accelerating Growth Investment Showcase in London this month.

20 of the UK’s most exciting start-ups, who have all received mentoring support from SETsquared, will be seeking financial backing ranging between £200k and £3m from an audience of more than 266 investors and corporates on 5th December.

The event is the 13th showcase for SETsquared, an enterprise partnership between the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey, and the world’s number one university business incubator.

Among the businesses pitching for investment are:

  • BotsAndUs – who have developed and launched the
UK’s first commercial social robot, Bo, with state- of-the-art human robot interaction technology.

  • KOMPAS – who have developed a mobile app leveraging machine learning to understand user interest data and patterns, before helping them navigate to unique locations in a city, creating a seamless travel experience while exploring.
  • LuJam – minimises business risks from cyber threats, tracks where data resides, who’s using it and provides visibility into network activity for GDPR.

Other start-up and scale-up businesses pitching at the event have developed technology in the sectors of energy, life sciences, fashion and beauty, healthcare and event management software.

Simon Bond, innovation director at SETsquared, said: “Our start-ups and scale-up businesses are poised to take up the challenge to pitch for a total of almost £20m worth of investment at this year’s Accelerating Growth Investment Showcase.

“There is a real appetite for investors to partner with SETsquared’s high-growth potential technology companies and this has created a real buzz around our event. We hope this positive outlook will result in a significant increase in the amount we have already helped our companies raise which to date is £166.7m

Over the last 15 years SETsquared has helped more than 1,500 businesses raise over £1.25bn in investment, as well as contributing over £3.8bn in GVA (Gross Value Added) to the UK economy with £8.6bn GVA estimated over the next decade – figures that contributed to it being named by UBI Global as the top university business incubator in the world.
