Statsbomb shoots and scores £1.5m during Series A investment round

SETsquared Bath member Statsbomb Services recently announced that its Series A investment funding round totalled £1.5 million.

StatsBomb Services Ltd provide football analytics software and consultancy services to football clubs, player agents and the media. StatsBomb launched in 2016 and are fast becoming the leading experts within the field of football analytics. They’ve devised and built a brand new, proprietary dataset to rival their competitions. The companies USP is that granular data with powerful analytics gives organisations a winning edge.

The funding will help the company to continue to grow and continue to develop the software needed to continue along the path as leaders within their field of football analytics.

Charlotte Randall, Co-founder of Statsbomb, said: “We are delighted to close our Series A investment round at £1.5m. We had consistent advice early on – ‘it will take a ton of time, be prepared’, they were right!.”

Charlotte continues: “SETsquared helped us refine our pitch deck and presentation skills early on, then it was a case of going to market. Every conversation with potential investors was hugely valuable, even when the answer was no we learnt more about scaling our business, where the risks are and where to focus our time and energy within the pitch process. The process also helped us solidify our projections of market opportunity and with introductions for some of our key hires.”

In October 2019 Statsbomb held their inaugural Innovation in Football conference at Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge stadium in London. Key industry speakers divulged coveted insight from the world’s top teams including PSG, FC Barcelona and Ajax. During the conference they ran a research competition where the winners presented new innovative research in football, had a dedicated women’s panel that included Emma Hayes MBE – Manager of Chelsea Women’s team, Jacqui Oatley OBE – Sports Broadcaster, and Vosse De Boode – Head of Sports Science at FC Ajax.

The event was a roaring success.  Suited & Booted Studios videoed all of their talks, including a live feed from the main room. When Statsbomb closed the feed at the end of the day, they had totalled 23,000 views. Want to watch the highlights? You can revisit the day via the YouTube video.
