Surrey Appoints New Head of Incubation: Caroline Fleming

Caroline Fleming has been appointed as the new Head of Incubation at the University of Surrey. Caroline brings a wealth of experience of working with start-ups and a great track record in new technology development, joining SETsquared from Carbon Limiting Technologies (CLT) where she managed the delivery of the Energy Entrepreneur Fund (EEF) Incubation Support Service on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change. Prior to CLT, Caroline was a Technology Commercialisation Manager at the Carbon Trust where she developed and managed a large grant and incubation programme supporting the development and commercialisation of innovative low carbon technology development companies.

Caroline is an engineer by background and has a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering. She’s worked in a variety of sectors including oil and gas, as well as more recently in clean tech, digital and other high growth sectors. She is also passionate about developing STEM skills, and particularly in encouraging female student participation in STEM subjects, and in ensuring these skills are matched to the requirements of tech companies and to help create the entrepreneurs of the future.

Caroline says of her new role: “I’m delighted to be working with world-class tech companies and tech specialists at the University of Surrey. I was instantly drawn to the role for the opportunity to be part of SETsquared as the global number 1 university business incubator and to bring my own expertise and experience to the table to further enhance the best practice incubation support on offer.”
