Symetrica Wins Backing for International Expansion

Southampton SETsquared alumni company, Symetrica, recently announced that it has secured substantial new investment from its existing investor group led by Nesta and Parkwalk to accelerate its international expansion plans. The investment will enable the company – which provides outstanding solutions for customs, border protection, law enforcement, emergency services, military personnel and first responders – to finance research and development and enhance its international sales programme. It already supplies radiation detection and identification solutions to the United States Government homeland security team and other partners worldwide.

CEO Heddwyn Davies commented: “We work tirelessly to enhance the operational effectiveness of key security teams through the provision of smarter nuclear security technology which has broad deployment potential across civil, first response and military operations. The incremental funding that we have been awarded by our existing investor group led by Nesta and Parkwalk, is an important step forward in enabling us to expand awareness of our existing security solutions as well as equipping us to make the necessary investment to keep one-step ahead of the complex global security market.”

Symetrica was established in 2002 as a spin out from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Southampton. It subsequently established a North American technology and manufacturing centre in Maynard, Massachusetts in 2005 specifically to support the US homeland security market.
