Treeconomics: a social enterprise on a mission to get better treescapes for everyone

SETsquared Exeter member and CEO of Treeconomics, an employee owned social enterprise, explains how they are on a mission for better treescapes for everyone.

Kenton Rogers, CEO of Treeconomics has over twenty years’ experience within the forestry consultancy industry. Kenton developed Treeconomics with the aim of increasing the UK’s tree canopy cover and, with over twenty positive benefits of having trees in urban areas, the company are setting out to make towns and cities better places to live and work.

By using software models such as iTree, Treeconomics can measure the structure and composition of our trees and urban forests. The company can then calculate the benefits and ecosystem services they provide, and value them in monetary terms. This provides an evidence-based approach in the development of informed urban forestry programs, management plans and projects. They specialise in all aspects of urban forest management, and offer services ranging from canopy cover assessments through to comprehensive management plans.

Treeconomics have received a range of support as members of SETsquared Exeter and in 2019 they pitched for investment at the SETsquared Investment Showcase.

Kenton commented: “So much has happened in the last year, with the support of SETsquared it really has been fast tracked. I’ve sorted out our business finances, insurance and we now have strategies in place for growing the business in a sustainable way.”
