Doug Richard to lead charge to make SETsquared universities more entrepreneurial

University of Bristol and University of Exeter host Entrepreneurial Institution Programme to boost profitability and employability

The SETsquared Partnership announces that the Universities of Bristol and Exeter will be running four workshops as part of the Entrepreneurial Institution, a series of free events aimed at promoting entrepreneurship amongst academics, students and management staff at further education and higher education institutions.

The University of Exeter will run two workshops on 3rd December and the University of Bristol will run two workshops on 12th December. Doug Richard, former Dragons’ Den investor, will be presenting at the two hour sessions, which aim to challenge universities’ knowledge of entrepreneurship and how it functions within the institution.

Academic institutions face a difficult world of fewer jobs, global competition and increased pressure on public resources. Sponsored by the Department for Business Innovation & Skills (BIS) and powered by Doug Richard’s School for Startups, the Entrepreneurial Institution (EI) is designed to equip colleges and universities across the country with the tools to meet these challenges, by teaching and embedding entrepreneurial values and skills amongst all our institutions’ contributing communities.

“These events with the Entrepreneurial Institution umbrella are just some of the ways that SETsquared is promoting enterprise within our five partner universities,” said Graham Harrison, Partnership Director at SETsquared.

“With our student enterprise events, our support for tech start-ups and our work on commercialising academic research, SETsquared is consistently helping to boost employability of staff and students, increase their entrepreneurial skills, and support the UK’s economic growth,” said Harrison.

“The UK needs entrepreneurs now more than ever,” said Doug Richard, founder of School for Startups. “We have to start tapping into the abundance of innovative talent that British universities and colleges have, and help them to unleash their entrepreneurial potential. There are so many brilliant people out there who can be part of Britain’s entrepreneurial future, and I can’t wait to meet them and get down to business.”

The Entrepreneurial Institution Programme is working in partnership with: the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education; the National Association of College and University Entrepreneurs; Enterprise Educators UK, Universities UK, VITAE; the Association of Colleges; and Doug Richard’s School for Startups.
