    Meet the Speaker

    Jim Seers, University of Surrey

Jim Sears is Director of Business Partnerships and head of the MSc Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management at Surrey Business School.

In the MSc programme, Jim has reshaped it over the past 10 years to focus on skill development related to innovation thinking which can be applied to companies of all sizes.  In conjunction, he has developed a range of business-based projects where students collaborate with companies.

Typically, the projects involve a company stakeholder who mentors students individually or as a team around a challenge related to their business context while students apply their skills including classroom learning.  This authentic learning environment enhances student experience and preparation for the workplace.  This is now the subject of his ongoing research.

    Kath Ayres, University of Bristol

Kath works in the Careers Service at the University of Bristol, running programmes that connect students with SMEs to support the development of workplace skills and help talent enter the SME community. Before joining the university, Kath spent nearly 20 years in the utilities sector, leading large-scale engineering teams and delivering business transformation programmes.
