WORLD LEADING BUSINESS SUPPORT

RESEARCH IMPACT
TRAINING:

HYDROGEN

Fuel the future with green hydrogen innovation

Next cohort dates: Online training can be undertaken in July & August. Join us every Wednesday in September (10th, 17th and 24th from 14:00 – 15:00) for a series of 1-hour live sessions which will bring your learning to life.

Blended, online learning, fully funded – the only commitment is your time.

Green hydrogen is set to revolutionise how we live, work, and power our world. But to unlock its full potential, including its use as ammonia for storage, transport, and fuel, we need new ideas, technologies, and fresh approaches.

That’s where you come in.

If you’re a researcher working in green hydrogen or sustainable energy, this training programme will give you the tools, knowledge, and connections to turn your research into real-world impact. You’ll explore commercialisation pathways, develop leadership skills, and learn how to bring your ideas to life through co-creation and spin-out ventures.

This training is delivered by SETsquared as part of the GW-SHIFT programme, a powerhouse partnership connecting academic, civic, and industry leaders across South Wales and the South West to accelerate the hydrogen transition. The training is funded by EPSRC.

Programme overview:
3 powerful modules

1. Commercial engagement options

In this module, we’ll explore the various ways research can be commercialised. Understanding these options is the crucial first step in your journey towards translating your research into impact. We’ll delve into why partnerships are essential, how businesses interact with research groups, and the vital role partnerships play in translational research.

2. Innovation Partner Networks

In this module, you will map the ecosystem you currently participate in and explore gaps and opportunities within it. You will evaluate partner linkages between different types of ecosystem participants and explore opportunities to widen your ecosystem through existing partners.

3. Partnership canvas & propositions

In this module, we will build on the partnership opportunities identified in Module 2 and work towards bringing them to life as real partnerships, creating meaningful value on both sides.

Additional benefits:

Real-world hydrogen case studies

Dive into two detailed, real-life hydrogen business scenarios to apply your learning and gain insight into how innovation partnerships work in practice.

Tech transfer case study

This module focuses on the role of commercialisation support from university tech transfer offices, and the transformative effect partnerships can have on identifying and qualifying commercial opportunities at every stage of a research project.

Live expert coaching sessions

Join three interactive online sessions with our seasoned trainer and a cohort of fellow innovators. These live workshops offer direct feedback, real-time collaboration, and opportunities to workshop your ideas with peers.

By taking part in the programme, you’ll also be given exclusive access to the SETsquared Innovation Platform, a tailored online space for those innovating in hydrogen to explore collaborations.

In addition, you will have access to a hydrogen specialist to support with further signposting within the sector and R&D collaborations.

On completion, you will receive a certificate of participation to evidence the development of your business proposition.

Who should take part?

Researchers from all UK universities. However, priority will be given to projects which will have an impact in GW-SHIFT regions (South Wales, Exeter, Plymouth, Bath and Bristol).
