About the Investment Programme & Event

For the past 20 years, SETsquared has hosted a highly successful annual investment event, helping companies raise over £160m in investment. 

Investment Futures will provide a platform for up to 20 SETsquared member companies to pitch to an audience of tech investors and bring the community together to debate hot topics around the investment landscape.

Successful companies will participate in an Investment Programme to polish and perfect their investment pitches. They will pre-record a five-minute pitch, which will be uploaded and promoted on our Investment Platform in the lead-up to the event. They will then deliver a one-minute quick-fire pitch at the actual event while networking with an audience of 150+ investors and getting involved in the critical discussions on the day.

Participation is free to SETsquared members.

Why apply for a place at Investment Futures

If you’re seeking to raise investment, this programme will put you on the path to investment success.

It will give you the opportunity to access:

  • a significant number of active specialist technology investors who shape commercial opinion and actively invest from £250k up to £5m in technology ventures
  • a marketing opportunity to a database of over 1,300 investors
  • an event attended by a range of investors, including VCs, angels, corporate venture scouts and high-net-worth individuals
  • a programme of support to further hone your investment proposition.

Selected companies get thousands of pounds worth of support with no equity or fees charged.

How to apply for a place

Step 1: Check Your Eligibility 

You are eligible to apply if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • You are a member of one of our SETsquared Business Acceleration Centres (Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Southampton, or Surrey).
  • You are a spin-out or a student-led innovation start-up from a SETsquared partner university.
  • You are currently taking part in a SETsquared programme.

Step 2: Learn about the process 

We recommend joining the SETsquared Innovation Platform for:

  • Further information about the selection process
  • Access to helpful tools and guidance

Step 3: Request a referral 

To be considered, you must be referred by one of the following:

  • Your centre director
  • Your technology transfer office (TTO)
  • Your programme lead

The referral must include:

  • A slide deck (pitch presentation)
  • A 1-page executive summary

Step 4: Get access to Envestry 

Once your referral is received:

  • You’ll be invited to the Envestry Investment Platform.
  • You’ll receive a unique link to your venture profile.

You must upload the following to your Envestry profile:

  • A minimum 1-page executive summary
  • A 5-minute pre-recorded investment pitch

Step 5: Complete the application form

In early September, all ventures on the platform will be asked to fill out a short application form.

Step 6: Selection process

An external panel of investors will assess your Envestry profile (no live pitch or Q&A required).  Up to 20 ventures will be selected to pitch at the Investment Futures Event.

Step 7: Prepare for the event

Selected companies will receive further support to refine and practice their pitch for the final showcase.

The Investment Showcase was well organised to maximise our exposure to the investment community. We made some excellent contacts, which will help us to open doors in the future.
