Following on from the success of previous programmes together with the Wessex Academic Health Science Network, we are once again providing a comprehensive business support programme to healthcare and life sciences ventures.
This is an immersive and interactive training course, which uses Strategyzer’s Business Model Canvas as a basis for exploring and developing your business plan. But don’t worry if you’re not familiar with this model, with the Wessex AHSN, we’ll take you through it step-by-step. This programme aims to give you a really effective tool to test the validity of your business model and understand and explain the value of your proposition to the NHS and health sector.
Participation in this event is free of charge to delegates and is funded by the Wessex AHSN.
The programme will help you to build up a picture of the NHS/UK Health Sector as a marketplace, to enable you to identify the optimum customer base for your business.
It culminates with the opportunity to present your Business Model Canvas to a panel of healthcare experts, who will provide invaluable feedback for you to take your business forward.
You will have the opportunity to learn core skills in entrepreneurship, learn more about the health sector in the UK and develop skills in the areas of:
The programme is designed for clinicians, healthcare practitioners, innovators and entrepreneurs with an idea for a health-based product or service, founders of early-stage ventures, more experienced entrepreneurs launching a new health-based product/venture and healthcare practitioners.
Priority will be given to applicants employed in the Wessex AHSN geographical boundaries which covers Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Wiltshire. Applications from West of England AHSN and South West AHSN geographical boundaries will also be considered.

It’s taken us through our business model canvas, helped us refine our value proposition, identify who our customers are, and who our key partners in the process could be. It also helped us think about the key channels we could use to sell to the NHS and how we would use them.
It really makes you analyse your potential customers, the value your innovation will bring to them and why they might be prepared to pay for it. The mentors were amazing and will be useful contacts going forward – I found the pitch training particularly valuable. It also makes you think about putting the infrastructure in place to scale your business.
Prior to the programme we were thinking more broadly, but now we’ve been able to think more specifically around how to get into the market, and how to trial and pilot our idea to get results, which we can then leverage to expand the scope of the project.
