Royal Academy of Engineering Leaders in Innovation

The Leaders in Innovation Fellowships Advance Programme (LIF+) is a new bespoke extension of the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Leaders in Innovation Fellowships (LIF) programme. The LIF Programme brings together emerging leaders from around the globe who have an engineering-based innovation that has the potential to contribute to the social and economic development of their country through commercialisation. The LIF+ gives one fellow from each LIF country, an enhanced programme of relationship-building and business growth training.

The programme brought together an exciting cohort of entrepreneurs who were developing innovations under the theme of disability inclusion and reducing inequalities in healthcare.

SETsquared was the delivery partner, providing an intensive and bespoke programme of mentorship, interactive training and advanced business support to help innovators develop stronger business models, commercialise technologies and prepare to raise investment. Through the LIF Advance programme, SETsquared tapped into its expertise in building strategic relationships in the UK and around the world and developed a positive and constructive peer support network among participants.

Independent auditors have estimated that successful high growth/scale-up companies supported by the programme and SETsquared during this cohort have the potential over the next decade (i.e. up to 2030) to generate approximately £180m turnover and employ around 160 people. Successful roll out of some of these products has the potential to improve the lives of over a 600 million individuals – most living in some of the poorest and most vulnerable communities around the world. 16 new jobs have been created during the programme.

We’ve worked closely with each and every Fellow, to provide a bespoke schedule of support in line with their stage of commercialisation and technology development and each and every one of them has given their 100% commitment. To see them make progress and connections and ultimately take the next step in their business development journey – is why we do what we do.
